Spring has sprung in northern California, and for the past few weeks, we have been anticipating and enjoying the re-birth of many of our plants, both in our front and back yards. It never ceases to amaze me how a plant that is shriveled up and left for dead can burst forth a few months later into new life!
The other day as I was walking the pathway to the front door of our home, I noticed that a small stem of a plant was growing out of one of our large ornamental rocks in the front yard. This is another phenomenon that is amazing to me as well. How can anything spring up from a rock, which is dry and apparently lacking in soil and nutrients that are vital to a plant’s growth? Whenever I see something like this, I am reminded that if a plant which God made, can survive under the direst of circumstances, then we too can bloom where we are planted.
Too many times I’ve seen people (myself included) say to themselves that they would be more successful or happier in life if only their circumstances were different. The apostle Paul stated: …”For I have learned in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.” (Phil 4:11) No matter the situation in our lives, we can grow and flourish when we abide in God.
So let’s remember that if God can cause a lily to grow out of a rock, then He can allow you to bloom wherever you are planted.
What a great reminder that we are to be content where He has planted us. I know an individual who came to the town that I live in and has fought to get out but every door was closed. Now she has accepted the fact that this IS where God wants her. She is now content and has peace. We were just talking about this Saturday and she made the comment that she has no desire to leave because she now knows it is God’s will for her to be here. She has finally quit fighting against the will of God and I believe her life will be able to bloom into something beautiful for God.
Great Post!
Thanks Jolene! It’s always so good to hear from you. As the Bible says, “Godliness with contentment is great gain.” Love you!
Great post, sis! Remember when Brother Munsey taught on “consider the lilies”? That was one of those classic messages that I have never forgotten. God has given us a great object lesson through the lily to show us that we can bloom whereve He plants us. Thanks for sharing. Love ya loads!
I’ve never forgotten Bro. Munsey’s message on the lily. I think that’s one of the reasons we like having lillies in our backyard. They’re starting to come back too, and it’s so exciting to watch. Love you truckloads!
I love this post, love flowers, and am always astonished when a plant springs from a rock, or grows along the side of the highway. Gives me faith and hope.
Love you.
Sis Shirley: Every day it seems there’s something new starting to bloom in our yard. It’s so amazing, and yes, it does give me faith and hope too! Thanks for stopping by. Love you!
That was a really good post…guess I need to be content where I am for now. lol Thanks!
Hi Jenga: It was good to hear from you and see you the other night. Stay sweet and always let God direct your paths. Love you! Aunt Kiki
We’ve got some tulips, paperwhites & hyacynith (sp??) coming up in our living room. :o) That’s about the only sign of spring thus far with our lingering winter. Gracie delightfully checks on the progress every day & is amazed!
Carmen and Gracie, so good to hear from you. Even an indoor garden is beautiful when it comes back to life. We have some hyacinths in our yard also. Love the sweet smell. Our star jasmine plant is blooming in bucket fulls. The smell is lovely, but I think I am allergic to it.
