Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring

Originally uploaded by Kiki Karia.

I believe that within every person, there is an emptiness or void that can only be filled by God Himself. But until we realize this, we try to fill that hollow place with so many things to satisfy the desire. Some of the things I sought after to fill my void were relationships, possessions and hobbies. For others it’s travel, career, money, power. The list goes on. But when I opened my heart to the Saviour, and He filled me with His Spirit, what a wonderful change took place in me. The void was gone, and the desire fulfilled! He gave me so much. He still does. Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring. The Bible says that in His presence is fullness of joy. When the wise men saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy! So this Christmas, as you’re opening gifts, remember the greatest gift of all; Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring. All that we desire is fulfilled in Him. He is our joy.

JESU JOY OF MAN’S DESIRING
(by Johann Sebastian Bach)
Jesu, joy of man’s desiring,
Holy Wisdom, Love most bright;
Drawn by Thee, our souls, aspiring,
Soar to uncreated light.
Word of God, our flesh that fashion’d,
With the fire of life impassion’d,
Striving still to truth unknown,
Soaring, dying, round Thy throne.
Through the way where hope is guiding,
Hark, what peaceful music rings!
Where the flock, in Thee confiding,
Drink of joy from deathless springs.
Theirs is beauty’s fairest pleasure;
Theirs is wisdom’s holiest treasure.
Thou dost ever lead Thine own
In the love of joys unknown.

I found this poem on a Christmas card and thought I would share it with everyone:

If you look for me at Christmas,
You won’t need a special star.
I’m no longer just in Bethlehem,
I’m right there where you are.
You may not be aware of Me,
Amid the celebrations.
You’ll have to look beyond the stores,
And all the decorations.
But if you take a moment,
From your list of things to do,
And listen to your heart, you’ll find
I’m waiting there for you.
You’re the one I want to be with,
You’re the reason that I came.
And you’ll find Me in the stillness,
As I’m whispering your name.

Love, Jesus

Life is made up of moments…segments of time in which a series of events take place. Most of us can look back on our lives and recall episodes that we’ve experienced which forever changed us. I call these defining moments. Giving birth to our son Jeremy was one of those moments for me. I took one look at our tiny newborn son, and it was love at first sight. I would never be the same again.
Some 2,000 years ago, a moment like no other occurred. In a lowly manger in Bethlehem, a young virgin gave birth to a tiny babe who would forever change history. God had become like one of us. Divinity had arrived. When I think of the humble beginnings of our Savior as a helpless baby lying in a bed of hay, and about the glory song sung by multitudes of angels, my heart is stirred.

What can I give to the One to whom all things belong? There is only one gift I could give — all of my moments, my unfailing love, unwavering loyalty and unending praise! I want to remain by the manger long enough for all my foolish pride to expire, my vanity to disappear and my values to align with God’s. My moments belong to Him.

Two years ago our family had a big reunion at our home on Christmas. We had a wonderful time together, and I recorded the memorable events from the family members, and posted it on my blog when I first started blogging in May 2006. Check it out if you’d like to capture the highlights. I recently ran across this picture in my archives. These are all my mom’s grandchildren, minus Abby, who was an infant at that time. Starting at the bottom row from the left is: Jennifer, Jeremy, Paul; 2nd row: Nicholas, Benjamin; Top: Natalie.

Mom has seven grandchildren and an eighth one (Chrisopher Brady) due in January. Families are so precious. I thank God for all my family.
