In my favorite poetry book called, "The Best Loved Poems of the American People", I ran across this poem years ago. It has become one of my favorites. I like to read it when I'm feeling anxious or troubled over situations in life. Hope you like it.
The Town of Don't-You-Worry
There's a town called Don't-You-Worry,
On the banks of River Smile;
Where the Cheer-Up and Be-Happy
Blossom sweetly all the while.
Where the Never-Crumble flower
Blooms beside the fragrant Try,
And the Ne'er-Give-Up and Patience
Point their faces to the sky.
In the valley of Contentment,
In the province of I-Will,
You will find this lovely city,
At the foot of No-Fret Hill.
There are thoroughfares delightful
In this very charming town,
And on every hand are shade trees
Named the Very-Seldom-Frown.
Rustic benches quite enticing
You'll find scattered here and there,
And to each a vine is clinging
Called the Frequent-Earnest-Prayer.
Everybody there is happy
And is singing all the while,
In the town of Don't-You-Worry,
On the banks of River Smile.

Auntie Kiki,
Just wanted to let you know I got a blog. Doesn’t have much on it yet, but come see it when you can!
Jen-
ohhhhh I like it!
Thank you so much – I read this a very long time ago and actually had a copy in my wallet until purse was stolen in 1985. It was honestly one of the few things in it that really mattered that I lost aside from my liscence. I have look for before but could never run across. I typed in today as a google search and… Thank you.
Hello Sharon. I’m glad you were able to find this poem through my blog. Thanks for your comments.
Blessings,
Karen
I found this poem as I was going through my mother’s papers and photos (she is dead 26 years). I’ve got a few problems right now and it is almost like she is sending me a message telling me that everything will be OK – just as she would have were she alive. It is printed on old brown paper (almost looks like a paper bag) and did not cite the author. Your blog came up first in my Google search. I’ll also be able to check out more by the author. Thank you.
Hello Alyn. Thank you for visiting my blog. I’m so sorry about your mother. I hope this poem will be a blessing to you.
Thanks for posting this! I’ve been looking for it for years! My grandfather, before he died, tried to tell me this poem and could only remember the opening line. He so desperately wanted to remember it one day he teared up. I’m glad to have it in my hands, even if it is a little late. thanks.
Misty:
I’m so glad you found the poem here, even if it’s a little late. May it bring you some comfort.
Blessings,
Karen (Kiki)
Thanks so much for shsring this poem on your blog.
I recited it at church several times so many years ago and did not remember some of the verses , but alas i found it again. Thank you.
I found this poem several years ago in a antique store, and fell in love with it! It was framed and on the bottom of the photo/poem it says copyright 1926 H.L.Bovenizer Oakland Calif. It was signed on the back but I can’t make out the spelling.
I gave this precious poem to my daughter who was struggling at the time. I have been looking for another one ever since. Do you have any suggestions how to locate another? Thank-you. sue
